Quick Start Guide: Get Alerts for Your County
There are three steps to receive notifications from SkyTruth Monitor for your county — or any area of interest (AOI) you want to monitor:
Create an account
- Click Create Account on the welcome screen. Or click the Account icon on the left side of the map, then Register here.
- Enter a User ID, password (twice) and your email address, and click Register.
- A confirmation email will be sent to the email address you provided.
- Click the link in the email and your account will be verified. Click Close.
Select Your County
- Click the Areas of interest icon.
- Click Explore a New Area.
- Select Pre-Defined AOIs.
- Select your state, then your county (or whatever area you choose.)
- Click Explore.
- Click Add this AOI to my list button.
- Enter a name for your AOI and click Save.
Selections for the map alerts and email notifications
You can opt to only see Alerts on the map that you care about. You can also opt to receive email notifications about just the Alerts you want.
- Click the Account icon on the left side of the map.
- Click Settings.
- Click Alerts.
- Use the checkboxes to the left of each type of Alert to choose which you want to receive email notifications for, and which you want to see on the map.
You will start to receive email Alerts as soon as we have them. NRC Alerts are typically released once a week, usually on Tuesday or Wednesday. State agencies tend to publish their Alerts more frequently and we check daily for any new ones. Find out where Alerts come from and their update frequency.
