How-To Guide
Annotate map
- Click the Annotations icon.
- There are several tools to choose from. See below.
- When you are finished marking up your map, you can download a GeoJSON file, take a screenshot, or save your map.
If you check Freeze Map Bounds, the map will not move around while you are marking up your map.
To exit Annotations, click the hand icon then the Annotations icon.
Add Text
To add text:
- Click the text icon.
- Place your cursor where you want your text. (This will be the top left corner of your text block.)
- Type your text into the text box, then adjust the size, font color and background color.
- When you are finished, click the hand icon to exit text mode.
To edit or remove text:
Click Remove this text if you are in text mode, or use the hand icon to edit or remove text after exiting text mode.
- Select the Hand icon.
- A “T” handle will appear at the top left of your text.
- To delete the text, click Remove this text.
- To edit the text, click the “T” handle and make adjustments to the text, font size and colors.
- Click and drag the “T” handle to move the text to a different location.
Add Shapes (Polygon, Rectangle or Circle)
To add a polygon, rectangle or circle:
- Click the Polygon, Rectangle or Circle icon.
- Use your mouse to click on the map to create the points of your shape. Lines will be added as you draw.
- Click your original point again to close the shape.
- Select a line color, fill color and opacity. You can also opt to show the area in km2.
- Remove the shape by selecting Remove Selected Shape.
- When you are finished, click the hand icon to exit the selected shape mode.
To edit or remove a shape:
Use the hand icon to edit or remove a shape after you have exited a shape mode.
- Select the Hand icon, then click anywhere on the shape. The shape’s points will appear.
- To delete a shape, click the Remove Selected Shape button.
- To edit a shape, click and drag the points to change the outlines of your polygon, rectangle or circle.
- Undo a change by clicking the Arrow icon that appears.
- Make any changes to the line color, background color, and opacity you would like.When you are finished, click the Hand icon to exit Shape mode.
Add Lines or Arrows
To add a line or arrow:
- Click the Line icon.
- Click the spot on the map where you want the line or arrow to begin.
- Keep clicking in new locations to add segments to the line.
- Double-click to complete the line/arrow.
- By default, the line has an arrow point at the end point. Uncheck the Include Arrow checkbox to remove it.
- Select a line color if you wish.
- Include the line length if you wish.
- When you are finished, click the hand icon to exit Line mode.
To edit or remove a line or arrow:
Use the hand icon to edit or remove a line or arrow after you have exited Line mode.
- Select the Hand icon, then click anywhere on the line or arrow, and its points will appear.
- To delete a line or arrow, click the Remove Selected Shape button.
- To edit a line or arrow, click and drag the points to modify it.
- Undo a change by clicking the Arrow icon that appears.
- Change the line color and make any other changes you would like.
- When you are finished, click the Hand icon to exit Line mode.
Add Map Markers
To add a map marker:
- Click the Marker icon.
- Click the map where you want the place marker to go.
- Select the type of marker pin you would like (or opt for a text label) and a color, if desired.
- Add text that will show up in the popup when someone clicks on the map marker.
To remove a marker or label:
- If you are still editing your map marker, click Remove marker to delete it.
- If you have exited map marker mode, click the hand icon, then click your map marker, and click Remove marker to delete it.
Download GeoJSON
Once you finish annotating your map view, click the Download GeoJSON icon to download your markup as a GeoJSON file.
Note: If you upload the GeoJSON file back into SkyTruth Monitor, the colors and other formatting you selected will not be saved.
You can also create a screenshot or save the map to view again.
