SkyTruth’s Alerts application reads environmental incidents from multiple websites and emails the details of these incidents to interested subscribers. Alerts helps solve the problem of when, where, and how to look for incidents and changes in land. The time and effort required to monitor an area can be enormous when left on your own to navigate the various government and non-government websites to search for the specific information that’s relevant to your area of interest (AOI). By subscribing to your AOI inside of Alerts, you’ll automatically be notified when there are events that we’ve captured. When we know, you know.

Currently, SkyTruth Alerts includes:

  • Initial incident data for oil spills, chemical releases, pollution and railroad incidents that are reported to the Coast Guard’s National Response Center.
  • Oil and Gas drilling permitting activity in Pennsylvania, Colorado and West Virginia.
  • Initial pollution reports in Florida, as reported to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

SkyTruth Alerts also allows viewing satellite imagery, annotating maps and sharing map views with others. The application is free and anyone can view alert incidents by visiting the map at By registering for a free account, you can also create and monitor your own Areas of Interest (AOIs).
