Transforming environmental protection with satellite imagery and analysis
SkyTruth takes advantage of the growing numbers of satellites orbiting the Earth to collect images and data that reveal human activities on land and sea. We believe that if you can see it, you can change it. And so we make our unique tools, images, maps, and databases on environmental activities freely available to citizens groups, journalists, policymakers, and others, to allow them to hold industries and governments accountable.
Our work is cross-cutting, encompassing freshwater, oceans, climate, and biodiversity and focuses on activities that can be captured by satellite sensors.
“If you’ve been getting away with illegally logging forests, dumping waste, or overfishing, you might want to reconsider your actions. A new generation of high-tech detectives has traded in their spyglasses for surveillance that’s a little more 21st century — and they think they can catch you red-handed.”
To see our work featured in various media outlets visit our News page, or view our blog to learn about our latest work.
We often publish our cutting-edge work with university, conservation, and technology partners in scientific journals.
We use satellite imagery and remote sensing data to identify and monitor harmful environmental impacts that otherwise remain hidden from view.
