SkyTruth Alerts shows you where environmental incidents have recently occurred, particularly for the oil and gas industry. Monitor areas you care about, and get notified about environmental incidents in those areas.

We built SkyTruth Alerts as an in-house tool in 2011, to help us monitor environmentally significant incidents by geographical area. We shared it with the public the following year. In 2018, SkyTruth Alerts underwent a major overhaul, taking advantage of the latest mapping technology, incorporating new account management and other tools, and adding new sources of information to cover more environmental incidents, making Alerts even more useful to our users.

About SkyTruth Alerts

SkyTruth Alerts NRC report of an unknown oil slick near the Taylor Energy platform(5 Sep 2019).

We built SkyTruth Alerts as an in-house tool in 2011, to help us monitor environmentally significant incidents by geographical area. We shared it with the public the following year. We started by mapping National Response Center (NRC) Alerts nationwide. The NRC serves as an emergency call center that fields initial reports for pollution and railroad incidents, and forwards that information to appropriate federal/state agencies for response. Later we added Oil & Gas drilling alerts for Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

In 2018, we completely overhauled the Alerts platform, and since then, we have been adding new alerts sources as well as new tools and features. We doubled the number of alerts you can see, added date range and alerts type filters, so you only see the alerts you care about most.
