Our Mission
Sharing the view from space to promote conservation for people and the planet.
Our Vision: Everyone around the world enjoys a healthy environment and sustainable livelihood because transparency is the norm: polluters know they will be seen and caught, industries have cleaned up their practices, and governments are vigorously enforcing environmental protection.
Despite the tremendous environmental challenges we face today, we’re optimistic. An explosion of satellite and computing technology will soon allow us to see what’s happening on the ground and on the water, everywhere, in near real-time.
In the past, SkyTruth analysts examined imagery manually to recognize patterns and environmental impacts on the ground and in the water. Today, with new technology, we are teaching computers to scan the thousands of images available every day to automatically detect those changes around the globe. With these advancements, we can analyze far more images every day, and it is becoming possible to take action to minimize or even stop environmental damage before it occurs.
As we move forward, we will apply these cutting edge techniques to more and more of our work, enabling us to cover larger areas of the Earth and making it harder than ever for polluters, poachers, and industry to get away with harming the planet. You can read more about this new approach in SkyTruth CEO John Amos’ blog post.

Learn why we take to heart the saying “seeing is believing” and how SkyTruth uses satellite images to show people what is happening around the world.
This year, the group that really stood out for me in terms of keeping tabs on the polluting energy class (as well as other environmental ne’er-do well) is SkyTruth. The company’s use of satellite imagery has provided valuable data to the masses — often showing the true scale of energy disasters, when corporations try to downplay them.
