Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf of Mexico

September, 2005 - Radar satellite images taken over the Gulf of Mexico in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina showed thin but widespread oil slicks emanating from many platforms and other sources. Most of the slicks dispersed within a few days, but persistent slicks in some locations indicated minor but continuous leakage from a few damaged platforms weeks after the hurricane passed through. Congress is poised to allow drilling for oil and gas in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

- Over 19 days SkyTruth covered 4,000 miles throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and Utah meeting with many organizations that address oil and gas drilling, hardrock mining, and other environmental issues affecting the Rocky Mountain West.

 SkyTruth Awarded Two New Grants

AUGUST 2, 2004 - A major 2-year grant from The Tiffany & Co. Foundation to support our work related to hardrock mining in the western U.S. and around the world and a grant from Patagonia to help us illustrate the potential impacts of energy development in the spectacular Roan Plateau of western Colorado and the Valle Vidal of northern New Mexico.
